Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Diploma and a Degree?
A Degree (NQF 7) is usually theoretical and focuses on “why” things happen. It is offered by Universities. A Diploma (NQF 6) is practical and focuses on “how” to do things. It is offered by Universities of Technology and Colleges. Both are valuable, but they lead to different career paths.
Can I study Nursing without Maths?
It is very difficult. Most public Nursing Colleges require Maths (or Maths Lit with a high mark) and Life Sciences. However, you can start with a Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing, which has lower requirements, and then bridge up.
Is a private college qualification valid?
Only if it is registered with the DHET and accredited by Umalusi or the CHE. Always ask for their “Registration Number” before you pay any fees. We cover this extensively in our guides to avoid scams.
